Essential Oil Monographs

By Martin Watt

This information resource is probably the most accurate and referenced collection of the properties of 57 Essential Oils ever published.

As a qualified herbalist, this helped me to differentiate between therapeutic claims based on herbal extracts, or on the essential oils from the same plant. Most claims based on herbal extracts have been eliminated.

For people in the medical profession a particularly useful feature is a micro-organisms cross-referencing system. This allows a particular organism to be found in an A-Z index - the reference to the oil affecting that organism can then be found in the monographs.

The information provided in the monographs is sufficient to produce advanced Material Safety Data Sheets.

Some oils may only be 3 pages long because I could not find sound therapeutic information on them. Others, such as Rosemary, are 15 pages and almost a book in themselves.

Contents:

•  Botanical name.
•  Main countries of origin.
•  Some habit and growth information.
•  The part the oil is extracted from and how.
•  Description of the oil.
•  Average composition of the oil.
•  Health and Safety Data - referenced and in detail.
•  Regulatory status - EEC & USA.
•  European CHIP regulation recommendations.
•  Historical uses with references.
•  Medicinal Activity including: Olfactory-Antibacterial-Antifungal, etc.
•  Suggested uses: Based on the references and on traditional uses.
•  Use information suitable for the medical profession.
•  Each monograph has a small image of the plant concerned.

Total database aprox. 354 A4 pages in black and white text.

(Punched to fit A4 2 ring binder or plain upon request).

REPRODUCTIONS OF BOTANICAL DRAWINGS

1650 to 1850

These Ancient black and white line drawings have undergone many hours of careful cleaning and retouching. They are exclusive to plants and trees that yield essential oils.

By using the wonders of computers, these drawings have been restored to what they would have looked like, when originally produced by the artists concerned.

The pictures have all been sized to fit A4 paper, and are offered as laser printed copies on a choice of conqueror bond or white 100 g.s.m. paper. Certain pictures - the trees in particular - could be photocopier enlarged up to A3 size without significant loss of clarity.

These prints make ideal gifts for Christmas, or birthdays.

They are ideal framed as wall hangings in treatment rooms, etc.

Some teachers have the pictures laminated to use during classes.

Available ready printed in the UK - around 60 drawings are available.

Paper versions not available for overseas, but you can print from the CD.

The CD contains the 60 mentioned above, and others in colour. Colour prints are not available but people can print all the pictures from the CD and on a laser printer the results are excellent.
